Summer vacation 2010

Like pioneers of long ago, we left Kansas City and drove to South Dakota. Along the way we stopped at Mitchell Corn Palace, the Badlands, and Wall Drug. Then on to Mt. Rushmore for a photo op with former presidents.
We visited the Crazy Horse monument - which someday will be the largest sculpture in the world. Here is a small model of it now:

Then we spent 4 days in Yellowstone National Park. We were surprised that in early June, there was still snow on many roadsides!! We enjoyed seeing the buffalo, the geysers, and of course, the waterfalls at Yellowstone Canyon.

Garner Creek Camp

Just 45 miles west of Nashville is beautiful Camp Garner Creek. We
worked there in March and April, 2010.
Scott's projects included adding a store room and restroom on the back of the snack shack. He also worked to finish the inside of a trailer being converted to a dorm for summer camp. His last project was re-siding director Paul Eby's trailer on the camp. We enjoyed working with full-time camp volunteers Clayton and Jane Adams. During the final week, Phillip and Alice Bough came and worked on re-siding the trailer.

Concert Tour

In March, 2010, we did 4 concerts in 7 days. We started in Calera, Alabama, then on to Maryville, TN, then Hayesville, NC and finally Blairsville, GA. The last 2 concerts were arranged by our friend Darlene Bone, and we stayed with them over the weekend. Luckily, the Tennessee, North Carolina, and Georgia borders are all within 20 miles of Murphy, where their home is!!

Rolling Hills Conference Center

February, 2010 we worked at Rolling Hills Conference Center, in Calera, Alabama. The month before, the camp lost a dorm building to fire, and suffered damage to most of it's hotel rooms due to a burst pipe during a cold spell. A leaky roof at the family life center had Scott replacing ceiling tiles (below)

Here is Anne and Ed Lewis, who manage the RV park. Anne has a collection of frogs at the park office.
Here is director JeriLynn Ventling with her mom, Ramona. Jeri's husband Dan was out of town when we all went out to eat.
We enjoyed working with Jean and Duane Morford, fellow ROAM volunteers who are also from Kansas City area. We lived just 30 minutes apart before, but had to get to Alabama to get to meet them.

January 2010 - Georgia

Camp Adrian in central Georgia was the site of our January work project. Here are directors Jeff and Peggy Croft in front of the office.
Scott salvaged wood from a de-constructed cabin to build a shed for a wagon used in hayrides.
Here's the finished product:
On the weekend of a retreat, Sadie and Emma helped fold napkins for the serving line.

South Carolina

In December, 2009, we worked at New Start Community Church of the Nazarene in Manning, South Carolina.
The project was to help finishing an addition to the church. The addition includes a worship center for the Spanish congregation who currently meets in New Start's fellowship hall. Also in the addition is a new youth fellowship room.Scott built a stage in the corner of the sanctuary for Spanish services. He also worked with Jerry Davidson to finish the sheetrock which had been hung by volunteers the previous month.

One day we rode in the church van with Pastor Dale and Melissa Turner to Georgetown, SC to do a concert at the nursing home. Afterwards, we enjoyed ice cream.

November 2009

This month we worked at Virginia Nazarene Camp in the center of the state. The Blue Ridge Mountains could be seen in the West. Scott removed a wall to enlarge a conference room and repaired the ceiling in the dining hall. Cynthia and the girls assisted with a luncheon for retired pastors and wives. One Sunday we gave a concert and shared our testimony with the Buckingham C
hurch of the Nazarene.
